A waterfall in the forest
I had heard tell of this waterfall quite a long time before I was actually able to locate it — quite far down a muddy trail. As in all ancient woodlands in Dartmoor, this one had a slightly eerie feeling to it (especially so since I was alone). About thirty minutes after I climbed down to the base of the waterfall to take photos, one of the legs snapped off of my tripod sending my camera briefly into the river! Then I started to pick up wailing noises coming from the distance. Being down in the small gorge, I could not see anything, but I took it as my signal to leave. After being startled by some rogue sheep on the trail back to the car park, I discovered that the source of the howling was simply a slightly misbehaving child and his dog.
