Harbour Emerging
Boscastle Harbour is my favorite place in the world to photograph, and I actually credit it for reigniting my passion for photography several years ago. This was my first time photographing it from the air. When I looked out the window before dawn on the morning this was taken, I could barely even see across the street. How could there be any hope for a sunrise? Couple that with the fact that Boscastle is classically a sunset location, and I almost got back in bed! Luckily I did not, as the clouds were much wispier out closer to the sea and the cloud tops did not extend more than a couple hundred feet above sea level.
From this perspective, it is easy to see how the steep valley of Boscastle funnels water from the surrounding areas. This unique topography contributed to the devastating flood of August 2004 which almost completely destroyed the lower village.
