Detail of The Wave

The iconic Wave of northern Arizona is one of those spots whose popularity has unfortunately exceeded its capacity. To combat overuse, a permit system has been implemented — only 4 groups per day win the lottery. Luckily the park rangers are very serious about catching people without permits (and the penalties are severe). This was our 3rd or 4th day signing up for the lottery and we got lucky! The win-rate circa 2021 was approximately 4% according to the rangers.
