Heather Clinging to the Ridge
We walked past this spot twice before investigating further — and were rewarded by the last of the year's heather flowering on the edge of the ridge. It was perfectly poised to catch the first of the morning light.
Early autumn is a marvelous time of year to be in Scotland. The short grasses are still green while the long grasses are yellow, and there are still some flowers to be found. And the weather is not yet always bad! I was surprised to find this heather clinging to the ridge since normally I associate it with spring and summer, but I felt it added a great foreground interest with the immensity of the Quiraing background behind it. An incredible sunrise caps it all off.
